How to Convert Steps to Miles?

Steps to calculate miles from steps include:

1) Determine the Stride Length

For Males:

Stride Length = Height (inches) x 0.415

For Females:

Stride Length = Height (inches) x 0.413

Do You Know!

The average stride length for men is about 2.5 ft. While for women, it is approximately 2.2 ft.

2) Multiply Stride Length & Steps Given

If you have stride length in inches, then use the following formula:

Miles = Steps × Step Length (Inches) / 63,360

If you have stride length in feet, use the formula below:

Miles = Steps × Step Length (Feet) / 5,280

Solved Example: (Steps to Miles Conversion)

Suppose that a male person is 5 feet and 3 inches (63 inches) tall and walked 8000 steps.

Step 1: Calculate Stride Length

Using the formula for males,

Stride Length = Height (inches) x 0.415

Stride Length = 63 x 0.415

Stride Length = 26.145 inches

Step 02: Calculate Miles

Miles = Steps × Step Length (Inches) / 63,360

Miles = 8000 × 26.145 / 63,360

Miles = 209,160 / 63,360

Miles = 3.3011

Remember That!

These calculated miles can vary depending upon different walking/running pace. Here, our steps to miles calculator instantly converts steps into miles based on stride length and pace, making tracking distance easier and more accurate.
